La gran mentira Cristo y Judas son flores de heroísmo y la una sombra agranda la otra lumbre; si Cristo es grande como toda cumbre, Judas es negro como todo abismo. Mas los dos, por extraño fatalismo, al predicar amor y mansedumbre, el uno es presa de ebria muchedumbre, el otro es un verdugo de sí mismo. Mientras tanto el Dios hombre y el suicida, hasta hoy no pueden con sus muertes rudas disminuir las miserias de la vida. ¡Y entre tantos horrores no se ha visto un acto más infame que el de Judas, ni un morir más inútil que el de Cristo! |
The great lie Christ and Judas are ideals of heroism, the one's shadow enlarges the other's light; if Christ is great like every zenith, Judas is black like every abyss. Yet the two, by strange fatalism, upon preaching love and meekness, the one is prey to a drunken crowd, the other is his own executioner. Meantime, the man God and the suicidal, to this day, with their cruel deaths can't diminish the miseries of life. And among so many horrors there hasn't been an act more loathsome than that of Judas, nor a more useless death than that of Christ! |
